Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy found himself in a sticky situation when he attended the inauguration of the new city courts complex in Vijayawada this morning.
As a CM Jagan always voted for Judicial capital in Kurnool. But today, CM himself along with CJI NV Ramana inaugurated the centrally air-conditioned complex built with an expenditure of Rs 100 crore. The complex has 29 spacious court halls, special chambers for sessions judges and magistrates, rooms for public prosecutors, waiting halls for the clients and other facilities. It will also have a bank, post office and canteen.
Days after assuming charge, Jagan put forward his proposal of three capitals for the state. He said that developing a capital city would be like putting all the eggs in one basket and cited the example of how no city in the state remained without development after previous leaders focused on Hyderabad alone.
He said that by demarcating three places as capitals, development can be spread across the state than concentrating on a single area. However, the proposal faced criticism from the opposition leaders and the farmers who pooled their agricultural land for construction of the capital, Amaravati.
Learning about the 3-capital proposal, the farmers launched a protest demanding that the CM should declare the state would have only one capital in Amaravati. Farmers in the capital region are still staging the stir.
Recently, Jagan again made it clear that the judicial capital would be established in Kurnool and there were reports that all arrangements for the same are in full swing.
In such a situation, attending the inauguration of a new courts complex in Amaravati could have caused pain ti the CM, opined political observers.
Given the financial constraints and legal hurdles associated with the proposal, when will the CM’s dream be a reality? Wait and watch.
