PM I-Day speech: Modi Emphasises Need To Be Self-Reliant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ has become a mantra for the 130 crore Indians. Indians took a resolve to be self-reliant during the pandemic and it is on their mind. He said that he was confident of the abilities and potential of his fellow Indians and called upon the people not to rest until the goal was achieved.

Modi unfurled the national flag at the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day on Saturday. Due to Covid-19, the Independence Day was celebrated in a subdued manner.

Firstly, the Prime Minister paid tributes to the Corona warriors who have worked relentlessly for the nation. “Can’t even count the nameless faces who have worked to fight the Corona pandemic. To these Corona warriors, I bow my head with humility,” he said.

Addressing the nation, he said India has to be self-reliant. “This is essential for us and the world. If we are self-reliant, we will be able to cater to the world,” the PM said and asked for how long would Indians keep sending their raw materials out of the country and import finished goods. He reminded that in agriculture, Indians have been able to achieve
self-reliance and called upon the people to emulate the same in other sectors too.

He also said that it was a day to remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and show our gratitude to the security personnel, including that of Army, paramilitary and police, for ensuring our safety.

Modi said that India has always believed that the entire world is one family. “While we focus on economic growth and development, humanity must retain a central role in this process and our journey,” he said.

Further, he said that while we focus on economic growth and development, humanity must retain a central role in the process.

The PM said that be it providing every household with electricity, cooking gas, creating bank accounts for the poor or building toilets in all houses, India has progressed a lot in every field in the last 6 years.

Modi said that some areas have been left behind in the journey of development. There are 110 districts in India that have to be brought back in the narrative of development. “We will have to work extra hard for upliftment of all,” he said.

On the National Education Policy introduced recently, the PM said that it will help our children grow and be equipped for global competition.
