Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party has made inroads in Gujarat by winning five Assembly seats with a vote share of 12 per cent in the concluded Assembly elections. But an inevitable threat is looming over the AAP.
Although the saffron party BJP swept the Gujarat State elections bagging 156 Assembly segments, Kejriwal’s party AAP has emerged as a formidable third front in Gujarat thus earning the status of becoming a national party.
It seems that Kejriwal is presently bothered by the news being speculated that three of his MLAs are likely to shift loyalties to the BJP.
AAP candidate Bhupat Bhayani who won the Visavadar seat, Sudhir Vaghani from Gariadhar Assembly segment, and Umesh Makwana from Botad constituency are all set to join the saffron party.
Interestingly, all the above three MLAs actually grew up through the ranks of the BJP. After being denied the party ticket in the polls, all three contested from AAP ticket and won the faith of the public.
Since the BJP has won the polls with a thumping victory, the elected AAP MLAs are mulling to join the parent party. Since the people of Gujarat gave a clear mandate to the BJP, it is nothing wrong in shifting loyalties to the saffron party, they claimed.
And the BJP is also trying to elude the anti-defection law. The development has also irked Kejriwal so much that now he regrets giving tickets to these MLAs. In fact there is nothing that he could do in the present scheme of things in Gujarat, feel analysts.
