An NRI has been arrested by AP police allegedly for his social media posts against CM Jagan. Ponduru Kotiratna Anjan was arrested by Krishna district’s Gannavaram police and presented before Additional Junior Civil Justice Sirisha on Thursday evening.
Anjan was accused of social media posts against AP state government and allegedly trying to tarnish the government’s image and reputation. He was accused of creating enmity between two groups. Police have booked him under IPC Section 153 A. He was booked based on a complaint filed by local YSRCP party worker Naga Surya Prasanth.
The police have appealed to the justice to send the accused to remand. However, the defense lawyer representing Anjan argued that remand is not required for such cases. The advocate appealed to the court that issuing notices would be enough. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the justice denied to send the accused to remand. The Judge said the accused would be released on own recognizance as per Station Bail Section.
Anjan has studied his MS in the USA and worked there for a while. He returned to India and was staying with his parents. Anjan was running a twitter account named Anjan Yuva Galam and posting tweets in favour of TDP and against YSRCP.
Police reportedly questioned him on whether any TDP leaders were behind him and whether he was receiving any monetary benefit from them. Police have reportedly given counselling to Anjan and asked him not to post against the government.
