Despite the political heat created by former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder and the needle of suspicion pointing at YCP MP Avinash Reddy, the ruling YCP would continue to retain its popularity in Andhra Pradesh, according to the Times Now survey. The party would make a clean sweep even if the Lok Sabha elections are held immediately, the survey revealed.
The Times Now-ETG survey found that the YCP would win 24-25 of the total 25 MP seats in the state. The survey also made it clear that Modi Mania would continue in the country and that the BJP would make a hat-trick forming the government for a third time at the Centre. The BJP coalition is likely to win anything between 292 and 338 seats while the Congress and its allies would bag 106-144 seats and others 66-96 seats.
Coming to the vote percentage, the BJP coalition will secure 38.2 per cent, Congress coalition 28.7 per cent and others would get 33.1 per cent.
Around 42% of the participants in the survey expressed confidence that the BJP and its allies would win 300 and more seats, while 26% felt that the BJP might not be able to reach the figure, 19% said it could be clear only during the election time and 13% were uncertain about the results.
Over 51% of the participants said that Modi 2.0 regime was extremely satisfactory. Around 16% of them said it was almost satisfactory, 12% opined it was moderate and 21% expressed dissatisfaction with Modi’s governance.
Coming to the shortcomings of Modi’s rule, 34% said inflation was the biggest failure while 46% felt unemployment needs to be addressed. Nearly 13% of the respondents pointed out that Modi could not get black money hoarded overseas back to the country as promised while 7% pointed out that the BJP government could not check the onslaught of China on India.
When asked if democracy and freedom of expression were under threat under Modi’s rule, 41% responded in the negative while 21% replied in the positive. About 14% said that the feeling of threat of democracy was the opposition’s view point while 24% remained neutral.
With regard to the regional parties, the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal would secure 20-22 MP seats, Biju Janata Dal in Odisha about 11-13 seats.
Over 64% of the participants voted for Modi as the most influential Prime Minsterial candidate in the country, 13% to Congress leader Rahul, 12 per cent to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, 6% to Nitish Kumar and 5% to Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Nearly 31% of the respondents opined that the opposition parties would get united before the 2024 elections, 26% felt that they would unite while 26% said they might have alliances post polls.
About 39% of the participants opined that disqualification as an MP would not help Rahul politically and that it was only a legal hassle while 11% of the respondents felt that it was not an issue of national significance.
Meanwhile, over 23% felt that the disqualification would fetch sympathy to Rahul and 27% remained neutral. Rahul’s remarks in Kolar that “all thieves have Modi as the common surname” during 2019 Lok Sabha polls kicked up a controversy and the Surat court sentenced him to two-year jail after a defamation case was filed by the BJP. Within hours after the verdict was delivered, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as the Lok Sabha MP and this action led to the Congress and other opposition parties terming it as ‘revenge politics’.
