Ever since he took over as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been travelling across the globe. The oppositions have criticised Modi for his constant tours and so they sought some details of Modi’s trips and the expenditure incurred due to this.
Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said that PM Modi has visited 58 countries since 2015 and the total expenditure of these trips is Rs 517 crore. Modi has toured the USA, Russia and China five times. Modi’s last trip was to Brazil on November 13-14 in 2019 where he attended a summit of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa).
On the contrary, the Centre in 2018 said that over Rs 2,000 crore had been spent on the PM’s foreign visits since June 2014. But these expenses include chartered flights, maintenance of aircraft and hotline facilities. A massive of Rs 1,583.18 crore was spent on maintenance of the PM’s aircraft.
The numbers have big differences but the minister Muraleedharan claimed that PM Modi’s visit to these nations have improved the bilateral, regional and global issues apart from trade and investment, technology, defence collaboration.
