In a historic downfall, YSR Congress slipped from 151 MLAs to 11 MLAs and 22 MPs to 4 MPs in the recent Andhra Pradesh election. But this doesn’t appear to have affected the perception of YCP’s Vijayasai Reddy who claimed YCP is still as strong as TDP at the center level.
Speaking with national media yesterday, Vijaya Sai exhibited bravado on YCP’s strength in the upper houses. He argued that the BJP, with support from TDP might have 16 MPs in the Lok Sabha, but at the same time, YCP is just as strong with 15 MPs – 11 in Rajya Sabha and 4 in Lok Sabha.
Vijaya Sai strategically reminded the BJP that the saffron party still needs YSR Congress’s support to pass their bills in the upper houses as YCP has 11 RS MPs on its side. He noted that YCP is just 1 MP short of TDP.
While the situation has gone haywire in AP with YCP not even getting opposition party status, the party’s high command appears to be leveraging its strength in the upper houses to be in the good books of the BJP. The very same Vijaya Sai also confirmed that YCP will categorically support the bills passed by the BJP.
