AP Education Minister Nara Lokesh is well known for introducing innovative reforms in the state’s education system. After expanding the Mid-Day Meal scheme to Intermediate students, Lokesh has now initiated another major reform.
Recognizing the need for mental well-being alongside academics, he has proposed the implementation of a “No Bag Day” for school students. This new initiative will allow students to focus on extracurricular activities rather than carrying heavy school bags. Lokesh has decided that “No Bag Day” will be observed every Saturday.
On this day, academic lessons will be set aside, and students will engage in various extracurricular activities, which Lokesh believes will promote their mental development. He quickly presented this idea to senior officials in the education department and gathered additional feedback on it. With experts believing that such measures will improve student performance and overall development, Lokesh decided to move forward with this initiative.
This proposal was made during a review meeting on Tuesday regarding the education sector. Lokesh directed officials to design appropriate activities for students on “No Bag Day.” He also emphasized the importance of supporting teachers with technology and taking necessary actions to enhance the learning capabilities of students. Additionally, acknowledging that teachers currently use multiple apps, he instructed officials to quickly develop a single, unified app to streamline their work.
