Will Jagan Make a Move This Time?

With the formation of the NDA government in the state completing seven months, Chandrababu Naidu’s government has been assessing the public’s satisfaction and dissatisfaction regarding its policies and programs, dividing them under the categories of schemes, events, and development.

Similarly, the YCP has also completed its seven months as the opposition. So, the question arises: how many marks does the YSRCP deserve in this period? In reality, during these seven months, the opposition has not done much to make an impact.

Notably, the absence of YSRCP leaders in the Assembly has led to a situation where even TDP leaders have barely discussed the party’s role. As a result, there has been little conversation about the YSRCP. The party’s activity or lack thereof seems to revolve entirely around Jagan. When Jagan is present, there’s movement and discussions about the party; when he’s not, it seems like no one is talking about it. This was again evident recently when Jagan went to London, leading to a complete silence within the party. He had already announced that he would return to the public starting in February, but there’s still no clarity on when that will actually happen.

Despite that, there’s always the possibility of public protests. But as of now, Jagan has not yet shown any active engagement in such efforts. Recently, he called for protests demanding reimbursement of students’ fees starting from February 5, but there are doubts whether Jagan himself will be present for these protests. After all, in the two previous protests, Jagan only sent his leaders and activists while he remained in Tadepalli or Bengaluru.

Because of this, many argue that as the opposition leader, Jagan has not lived up to the expectations so far. The future, however, will depend on the changes he brings about, the actions he takes, and the kind of path he chooses to follow. Therefore, merely directing leaders and activists is not enough; if Jagan himself steps into the field, it will attract significant attention. Otherwise, if only the leaders are visible, the impact may not be significant, as analysts point out.
