BJP Forming Government After 27 Years?

The Delhi Assembly election campaign concluded yesterday with the polling completed by 5 PM. The voter turnout was around 60%, which is considered mediocre and standard for Delhi.

Now, coming to the topic, legacy media agencies and established exit poll reporters are clearly projecting a clean sweep for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election.

Today’s Chanakya Numbers:

  • BJP: 51 [49%]
  • AAP: 19 [41%]
  • OTH: 0 [10%]

Axis My India Numbers:

  • BJP: 50 [45 – 55]
  • AAP: 20 [15 – 25]
  • INC: 0 [0 – 1]

Both of these legacy poll agencies have projected the BJP to win at least 50 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly. This would be a significant development if these projections turn out to be accurate.

The last time BJP formed a government in Delhi was in 1998, and ever since, it has been Congress and AAP that held power. But according to the exit poll reports, it now appears that BJP may rewrite history after 27 years and finally form a government in Delhi.

On top of that, a few veteran media personalities have projected that Chief Minister candidate Arvind Kejriwal himself might lose the New Delhi Assembly constituency. They are projecting an anti-incumbency wave strong enough to defeat Kejriwal himself.

By the looks of it, the exit polls and media reports are overwhelmingly in favor of the BJP alliance in Delhi. Things are not looking very promising for Kejriwal and his AAP for now.

However, several AAP leaders have pointed out that these exit polls do not reflect the mood of Delhi voters and are confident about winning the election for the third time, making it a hat-trick.

Either way, we will get decisive clarity on this matter on February 8, when the anticipated counting finally happens. The initial trends will emerge by 10 or 10:30 AM on the mentioned date.
