While the entire focus of the Indian cricketing community is on the upcoming IPL, which is starting on March 22, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has also completed a story of its own.
The WPL tournament which is the equivalent of IPL for women cricketers drew to a close today with the finale between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
The finale was played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and it was a highly intense clash between Mumbai and Delhi. After being put in to bat first, Mumbai got to 149 which looked like a chaseable target for Delhi.
But Mumbai, being the champion team that it is, could put up a strong bowling performance in the second half and secured the game by a margin of 8 runs by restricting Delhi to 141.
With this significant achievement, Mumbai has become the first team in the WPL to win two titles. They’ve won two of the three seasons that were held till now and this shows the quality of the Mumbai side.
This must be a pleasurable news for Mumbai fans as their women’s side is proving to be equally as effective as their men’s side. While the men’s side had won 5 titles till now, the women’s side have two titles.
