Mithun Reddy Seeks Bail as SIT Intensifies Liquor Scam Investigation

YCP senior leader and former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s son, Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, has approached the court. He has filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail. In his petition, he mentioned that false cases were filed against him, and his name was even mentioned in the media. He clarified that he has no connection with the case filed by the government. He stressed that as a Member of Parliament, he is not involved in any policy decisions of the state government. However, the case alleges that he interfered in certain policy decisions made during the previous YSR Congress government. Given that there is a possibility of his arrest at any time, he requested anticipatory bail.

During the tenure of the YSR Congress government, the state government itself began selling liquor. Special stores were set up to sell liquor under government control. However, the alliance government later accused the previous YSR Congress government of promoting local liquor brands over well-known ones, which they claimed jeopardized public health. The government ordered an investigation into the liquor brands produced during the YSR Congress rule, their sales, profits, and discrepancies. The Vijayawada Police Commissioner, Rajasekhar Babu, led a special investigation team and instructed them to submit a report within three months and arrest the guilty parties.

Currently, the investigation into the case is ongoing. However, media reports have covered several aspects of the investigation. It was found that several distilleries linked to the Peddireddy family produced low-quality liquor, which was sold at high prices through government channels. The police also noted that these distilleries were owned by Mithun Reddy’s family members. Several names were mentioned in the FIR filed regarding the liquor smuggling. At the same time, Excise Deputy Commissioner Sathya Prasad’s statement also mentioned Mithun Reddy and several other YSR Congress leaders’ names.

During the YCP’s tenure, some distilleries had their quotas increased, while others had theirs reduced. There were also suspicions that MP Mithun Reddy was involved in influencing these decisions. In light of this, Mithun Reddy filed an urgent petition in the High Court on Monday evening, claiming he had no involvement in the matter and requested anticipatory bail. However, as the court session had already ended for the day, the hearing of the case remains uncertain.
