After losing the 2024 election, there has been widespread speculation about the legal battles awaiting Jagan Mohan Reddy, particularly concerning the multiple ED and CBI cases pending against him. Now, nearly a year after the election results, there’s been significant progress in the ED’s investigation.
According to the latest reports, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth ₹793 crore linked to Dalmia Cements in a money laundering case involving former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The case centers around the alleged illegal granting of 417 hectares of limestone mining leases in Kadapa district during the tenure of Jagan’s father, the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleges that Dalmia Cements collaborated with Jagan to obtain these leases. In return, Jagan reportedly received ₹150 crore. A significant portion of this amount was later invested in Raghuram Cements, which subsequently became Bharati Cement. Based on these findings, the ED initiated a probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, leading to the attachment of the assets.
With this notable development in the long-pending disproportionate assets case against the former Chief Minister, the big question now is whether Jagan will be summoned to participate in the investigation. If a fresh notice is issued, it would mark the beginning of a serious legal tightening process for the YSRCP chief.
