Former AP CM and YCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy faced a setback on Friday as the Andhra Pradesh High Court delayed his petition seeking restoration of Z+ category security. Jagan claimed that while he was the Chief Minister, he was provided Z+ security, but it was reduced without any prior notice after he stepped down and became the opposition leader.
Jagan filed the petition on Thursday, asking the court to order the Centre to immediately restore his previous Z+ level security, citing serious threats to his life. The High Court heard the matter the very next day, considering arguments from both Jagan’s side and the Central government.
YSRCP leaders were hopeful for a quick decision, but the court instead postponed the hearing to after the summer vacation. This means there will be at least a month-long delay, leaving Jagan and his party disappointed.
Jagan has rarely made public appearances since stepping down as CM, attending only selected events. There have also been claims that he’s not fully cooperating with police protocols during his appearances. Additionally, YSRCP leaders are accusing police officials of harassing their party workers, warning of retaliation if they return to power.
In the petition, Jagan pointed out that he had already written to the Centre but received no response. He told the court that this forced him to approach the judiciary. He also asked the court to allow him to use a bulletproof vehicle of his own if Z+ security is not restored.
With the court hearing postponed, all eyes are now on what decision will come after the summer break.
