The Telugu Desam Party ecosystem is now preparing for what promises to be a historic Mahanadu event, scheduled to be held from May 27 to 29 in Kadapa. This is expected to be one of the most significant Mahanadu events, coming a year after the party’s remarkable resurgence in Andhra Pradesh politics.
While TDP supporters are energetically preparing for the event, YCP leaders appear dejected and irked by it. This is evident from a recent development, where YCP leaders have allegedly attempted to obstruct Mahanadu using COVID as a pretext.
Notably, YCP leaders Ravindranath Reddy and former deputy chief minister Amjad Basha approached the Kadapa Joint Collector with a proposal to stop the Mahanadu event.
These YCP leaders cited COVID as the reason behind their plea, stating that public gatherings should be avoided to prevent the spread of the virus. They used this argument in their request to halt the Mahanadu.
However, Andhra Pradesh has reported only a few scattered COVID cases, which are far from sufficient to cause public concern. Despite this, YCP appears desperate to obstruct this large-scale Mahanadu, especially since it is being held in Jagan’s stronghold of Kadapa.
Citing COVID as a reason to oppose this public event highlights the party’s double standards. While Jagan himself is conducting press meets and party conferences in closed rooms without wearing a face mask, and even calling for protests on June 4, YCP leaders using the COVID excuse to obstruct Mahanadu makes very little sense.
