Indian Air Force Chief Amar Preet Sigh said that India downed five Pakistani fighter jets of the F-16 and JF-17 class during intense fighting carried out, as part of Operation Sindoor.
Singh said that IAF targeted several Patkistani airbases, damaging radars, runways, command centres, hangars, and a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. A C-130-class aircraft and possibly a high-value surveillance aircraft were also hit during the operation.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said that one SAM system has also been destroyed. “We have clear evidence of one long-range strike, about more than 300 km, which happened to be either an AEW&C or a significant aircraft, along with that five high-tech fighters between F-16 and JF 17 class.”
At the same time, Singh dismissed Pakistan’s claims of shooting down Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, and called them Manohar Kahaniyan. “There is no evidence to support Pakistan’s claims, while India had shared images of damage caused to Pakistani targets.” He added that such claims were made only to save face and mislead their public.
Pakistan had repeatedly claimed that it shot down several Indian fighter jets following Operation Sindoor, carried out in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 tourists were killed.
