Every year during the November and December months, a substantial volume of the South Indian population observes the holy Ayyappa Deeksha. Taking this 41-day Deeksha and wrapping it up with the submission of Irumudi at the Sabarimala Temple is centuries long tradition down south.
In this context there have been complaints about the elegance of the aviation department and Private entities to allow the Irumudi package in the airplane cabin luggage. Pilgrims have been asking the authorities to permit them to carry the sacred Irumudi along with them on the flight rather than placing it at the luggage cabin.
The matter has reached civil aviation minister, Rammohan Naidu, and he had a quick reaction to the same. Now for the first time, Ram Mohan Naidu announced “I am pleased to announce an important decision taken for the convenience and spiritual comfort of Ayyappa devotees undertaking the holy pilgrimage to Sabarimala.”
Understanding the deep sentiments attached to the sacred Irumudi, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to permit devotees to carry it with them on flights, ensuring their traditional practices remain uninterrupted. All necessary security aspects are being adhered to, while fully respecting the sentiments of the people, the statement from the civil aviation minister read.
This move reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding cultural values, religious traditions, and the devotional spirit cherished across the nation. Needless to say, this announcement from Ram Mohan Naidu is being largely appreciated by the Hindu community.
