Visakhapatnam, fondly called as Vizag, is the centre of media attention and people across the country ever since the NDA government led by Chandrababu Naidu came to power in 2024 June. Besides emerging as one of the fast developing technology hubs, the coastal city is turning out to be a major tourist attraction of South India.
Among many developments on tourism front in the last one year, the cantilever glass bridge constructed atop the scenic Kailashgiri hills has hogged the limelight because it etched into record books for becoming the longest skywalk in the country, which is inspired by some of the iconic glass skywalks in China and designed on the lines of the Vagamon glass bridge in Kerala. Similar bridges can be found in Wayanad( Kerala) and and Sikkim.
On Monday, December 1st, the glass bridge has finally been opened for the public. Vizag MP Sri Bharat inaugurated the attraction today morning and people of the city thronged the spot to witness the breathtaking experience. Reports suggest that the bridge will be open from 9 AM to 8 PM everyday. The ticket price for 10-15 minute walk is capped at Rs. 300.
The cantilever glass bridge was built by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority at a cost of ₹7 crore and stretches nearly 55 metres. The construction was completed in September this year. The walkway, made with imported German glass, promises an exhilarating experience for visitors. Located 862 feet above sea level, the bridge offers stunning views of the Bay of Bengal and the city’s rising skyline.
