Former CM YS Jagan appears to have finally understood that the infamous Rushikonda Palace that he built in Vizag is doing a lot of damage to him politically. The vehement abuse of power and stark disregard for public money have earned him a lot of negativity.
Perhaps as an act of countermeasure or damage control, Jagan made an interesting statement as he said the Palace was constructed within a budget of ₹240 crore. He made this wild comment in front of the media yesterday, and even labelled that this Palace can host PM Modi or even Russian president.
But according to a newspaper clipping from a reputed Media channel, the Jagan government had indeed spent ₹453 crore on the Rushikonda palace. The existing Haritha resorts, which were yielding Rs 7 crore revenue per year were demolished to build this lavish palace with a coverage of 9 acres.
The Rushikonda Palace was cleared to the degree of 20 acres just to make space for this lavish palace and it speaks a lot about the sheeer abuse of power and public money. According to this newspaper clipping, funds from horticulture and tourism departments were diverted to fund this palace.
While the majority of these records are on paper and the expenditures are clearly there to be seen, Jagan changing his word on the budget of the project is proving to be non effective. He just at least understand the degree of damage and apologise for what happened rather than blatantly lie in public, a senior TDP leader remarked.
