The RTC strike in Telangana has become more serious after the death of driver Shankar Goud, creating strong tension across the state. He set himself on fire during a protest at the Narsampet depot and later died in hospital due to severe burns. This shocking incident has deeply affected RTC workers and triggered anger and protests in many depots.
The situation is worrying because this is not an isolated case. A few more workers also tried to take extreme steps during the strike but were saved. This shows the level of frustration and fear among employees over their future.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reacted with shock and held late night review meetings with ministers to understand the situation and control further damage. The government has promised support to the family and said it is ready to hold talks with unions to resolve the issue.
The main reason behind the strike is the fear of job loss due to electric buses. Workers believe that bringing in private companies to manage these buses may slowly reduce RTC jobs. They are also unhappy about transfers and contract systems, which they feel are affecting job security.
With protests growing and emotions running high, the government is now under pressure to act quickly. How it handles talks and addresses worker concerns will be crucial in the coming days.
