‘Chandrababu Naidu – KCR’ Moment For Mamata Banerjee!

Sometimes, simple things in Politics will have unimaginable consequences. We do not know when careers will be smashed and when they will be created.

In 1999, KCR, the then Deputy Speaker during Chandrababu Naidu’s government, was upset and resigned to the Telugu Desam Party and his MLA Post. He floated the TRS Party, led the agitation for separate statehood and the rest is history.

There were rumors that KCR was upset with Chandrababu for denying him a cabinet berth.

The Consequence of that was two Telugu states, and KCR played an instrumental role in wiping out the Telugu Desam Party from Telangana state.

Something similar has happened to Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.

Suvendu Adhikari who took oath today as the Chief Minister of the state from the BJP Party was once known as a “trusted apprentice” and “all-weather man” for Mamata Banerjee, playing a key role in her early rise and the TMC’s rise to power, particularly during the Nandigram agitation.

He broke away from her in 2020 due to issues with Mamata’s son-in-law.

Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP and vowed to defeat Mamata Banerjee.

He played a pivotal role in the Lotus Party’s victory in the just-concluded Assembly elections.

He created a sensation by defeating Mamata Banerjee twice—in Nandigram during the 2021 Assembly elections, and in Bhabanipur during the recent elections.

Many believe that Mamata Banerjee and TMC’s time in West Bengal is over and they will be wiped out of the state’s political turf in the next five years.

If that happens, it is a redux of what happened in the ‘Chandrababu Naidu – KCR’ issue.

Chandrababu Naidu is a fighter and time had also given him an opportunity to become the Chief Minister of the other Telugu State, Andhra Pradesh twice.

We will have to see if Mamata will be able to make a comeback by standing up to the BJP Governments in Bengal and Delhi.
