India has the most population for any other country in the world with a staggering 1.4 billion people residing in the country. However, something detrimental is happening with regard to the population index now.
According to the latest statistics, India is witnessing a declining population index, which would mean that it would reach the negative population growth in the near future.
India’s fertility rate has fallen below replacement for the first time in the country’s history, declining from a TFR of 2.3 to 1.9 in just a decade. For perspective, Delhi’s fertility rate now sits at 1.2, lower than Finland’s.
It appears that Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu was absolutely right about the negative population index and the need to enhance the population.
When Babu had earlier said that he would be providing financial assistance to 3rd and 4th childbirth, people made fun of this and even criticise his decision. Many people commented that India does not even have the right infrastructure of the educational system to host such population.
But in terms of statistics, India is witnessing a downward trend now, and this is where Babu’s vision is coming to display. But there might be better measures and activities to take care of the population index, and this is what is being circulated now.
In fact, Elon Musk has also posted on this as he said “India’s birth rate has fallen below replacement. Among those most educated, India’s birth rate fell below replacement many years ago.”
