In a shocking move, the Centre has cancelled the winter sessions of Parliament citing Covid-19. This is confirmed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi in response to Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary’s letter demanding to hold sessions to discuss controversial new farm laws.
Well, when the Covid-19 was in its peak in September, the Centre still managed to host the Parliament sessions and passed 27 bills including the controversial farm bill. But now the Centre is refusing to hold the session and this is in view to the growing agitation against the farm bills.
Minister Joshi mentioned in the letter to Congress leader that all political parties favour scrapping the session to avoid any Covid spread and jumping straight to the Budget session in January.
If the winter sessions are skipped, the Centre has to hold Parliament for the budget and this is likely to take place in the first week of February. By then the BJP government hopes to settle the farmers issue with farm bill.
