The Central government has introduced a new “One Officer, One Official Car” policy to prevent the misuse of government vehicles and reduce unnecessary spending.
Under the new rule, senior officers will be allowed to use only one official vehicle, even if they are handling additional responsibilities in another ministry, department, PSU or autonomous body. They will not be given multiple government cars for extra charges.
The Finance Ministry’s Department of Expenditure has directed all Central ministries and departments to strictly follow the new guidelines. The government has also banned the use of vehicles belonging to PSUs and autonomous bodies for personal or unofficial purposes.
Unused government vehicles must be parked safely and should not be used without proper authorisation.
The Centre said the new policy is aimed at improving administrative efficiency, cutting transport costs and ensuring public money is used responsibly.
