Telangana police caught an Armed Reserve constable from Andhra Pradesh red-handed while shifting 200 kg ganja from Narsipatnam Agency area in Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad in a vehicle bearing ‘AP Police’ sticker.
The constable, during interrogation, revealed startling details about the involvement of Hindpur II Town CI Sriram also in the smuggling of contraband.
Soon after the Uppal police found the role of the CI in the illegal activity, Anantapur Range DIG transferred him.
On a tip off, the police intercepted a suspicious vehicle at Nallacheruvu and identified that it was being driven by Mohana Krishna, an AR constable belonging to Anantapur district. He was driving the police vehicle, an Etios car, with the contraband, carrying his duty pass.
On interrogation, the police found that the constable supplies ganja to Hyderabad city, Karnataka and even to some other places in Maharashtra regularly.
The excise police in Telangana sought custody of the constable for a week to probe into the case. The constable has been supplying ganja to Bellary, Zaheerabad and Hyderabad for the last six months.
It is being suspected that several others in the police department, along with constable Mohana Krishna and CI Sriram, are involved in drug peddling.
Hyderabad police said that they were investigating to find out information of all those involved in the case.
