Another Day, Another Big Investment For Andhra

Amidst all the buzz about Hyundai shipyard shifting from Tamil Nadu to Andhra is looking at another major investment push, with Deloitte planning to expand its presence in Visakhapatnam and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) moving ahead with a massive ₹8,000 crore project in Machilipatnam.

It is a known fact that Deloitte is preparing to set up a regional branch office in Visakhapatnam, as part of its plan to expand into India’s Tier-2 cities. The company has reportedly been looking at Rushikonda IT Hills for its operations. Deloitte has also sought interest from its employees for relocation to cities including Visakhapatnam, Mangaluru and GIFT City.

The Visakhapatnam office is expected to focus on areas such as IT consulting, technology services, global finance operations and BPO services. The proposal is expected to create around 2,400 job opportunities, according to the report highlighted in the newspaper clipping.

This comes at a time when Visakhapatnam is slowly building a bigger IT ecosystem, with companies such as TCS, Infosys and Cognizant already having a presence in the city.

Meanwhile, Machilipatnam is set to get an ₹8,000 crore defence and shipbuilding facility from Goa Shipyard Limited. The APSIB has cleared the project. It will be the first major expansion of GSL outside Goa.

The project will require around 400 acres of land and is expected to create nearly 3,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs. Trial production is targeted for January 2028, with commercial production for the first phase expected to begin in May 2028.

The GSL project is another important addition to Andhra Pradesh’s growing focus on the IT, manufacturing, defence and maritime sectors.

With Deloitte looking towards Vizag and GSL investing heavily in Machilipatnam, the latest developments show how different parts of Andhra Pradesh are being positioned for new industries and employment opportunities beyond just the IT sector.
