At least 8 civilians died and over thousands feared ill after a huge gas leakage at LG Polymers in RR Venkatapuram in Naiduthota area, Visakhapatnam district in the wee hours of Thursday, the latest. Times of India reported nearly 5000 fell ill. Scary visuals of people lying unconscious on the roads have been going viral on social media since morning.
According to the reports, the gas leaked in the radius of 3 to 4 kilometres till Gopalapatnam area. Many people have been complaining of poor the eyesight, breathlessness, rashes in the eyes and stomach pain due to the leak. All the victims have been taken to the KGH hospital in ambulances and on bikes.
Fire tenders and ambulances have been rush to the spot and even NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed to rescue the victims and evacuate all the families within the 3 kilometre radius. Even several policemen and rescue workers have been facing breathing difficulties due to the incident.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police RK Meena told the media that the gas has been neutralised and an FIR has been registered against the LG Polymers authorities. Vepagunta, Venkatapuram, Gopalapatnam, Simhachalam and Prahaladapuram areas have been issued red alert until further notice.
