IPL 2022 To Follow IPL 2011 Format

Indian Premier League will have two new teams from the 2022 edition. Adding new teams leads to an increase in the number of games.

If the current format is followed, the total number of games with 10 teams will be 94. But that will not be possible due to the less available time window. Thus, IPL will follow the format used in 2011.

Speaking to the PTI, a source from BCCI confirmed that IPL 2022 will have 74 games just like the way it was in 2011.

According to this format, 10 teams will be divided into two groups. Consider groups as A and B. A team from group A plays two games each with four other teams in group A and one team from group B. It will play only one match with the other four teams of group B.

In this way, each team plays 14 matches on the group stage. Therefore, the total number of matches will be 70 and including the playoff games, the count will be 74.

The bidding for two new teams will start in a couple of months.
