IPL 2025: Bowlers Give A Thrilling Victory To LSG

Mumbai Indians took on Lucknow Super Giants in the 16th game of IPL 2025, which was held tonight. It was LSG which won the game by 12 runs.

Toss: Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first.

First Innings:

Despite losing the toss, Lucknow Super Giants utilised the opportunity of batting first as openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram gave a stunning start to the team. Both of them made a stunning 76-run partnership for the first wicket. Marsh (60) got out after his fifty. In-form Nicholas Pooran and captain Rishab Pant also got out without making any impact. Later, Markram (53) built good partnerships with Ayush Badoni (30) and David Miller (27), which helped LSG in scoring 203/8 by the end of 20 overs. MI captain Hardik Pandya (5/36) registered his best IPL bowling figures by scalping five wickets.

Second Innings:

While chasing this high total, Mumabi lost the wickets of openers Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton in less than three overs. Later, Naman Dhir (46 off 24 balls) played a sensational knock in the powerplay and got out right after the powerplay ended. Later, Surya Kumar Yadav (67) and Tilak Varma built a slow and steady partnership of 74 runs for the fourth wicket. But Lucknow bowlers didn’t allow MI batters to score big at any point. In the last two overs, MI needed 29 runs. Surprisingly, Tilak Varma has been sent as retired out as he failed to get going. In the last over, MI needed 22 runs to win. However, Hardika Pandya couldn’t achieve the target and MI ended up making 191/5 in 20 overs.

In a nutshell:

Ahead of this game, both Mumbai and LSG were tied with a single win of the three respective games they played. Both teams needed to win this game to build momentum. While batting first, LSG got a good start from its openers Markram and Marsh, who scored their respective partnerships. Badoni and Miller contributed well, too. At one point, it looked like LSG would score around 220-230. However, Hardik Pandya’s fifer put breaks on LSG’s batting speed. Despite losing openers early, Naman Dhir, SKY and Tilar Varma put Mumbai in the chase till the end. However, LSG bowlers bowled brilliantly in the death overs and never allowed Mumbai to score big. Mumbai, which played slowly throughout the innings, only to score big in the end, faltered badly and lost the game cheaply despite having five wickets in hand. With three losses in the first four games, Mumabi is in a dire situation, just like Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Scorecard: LSG – 203/8 (20 overs) and MI – 191/5 (20 overs)

Next Up:

Mumbai Indians will next play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7. Lucknow Super Giants will face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8.
