Reports: Virat Kohli Informed BCCI Of His Test Retirement?

If the latest speculation in the cricketing world is anything to be believed, star Indian batsman Virat Kohli is mulling retirement. Apparently, Virat is said to have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intention to retire from Test cricket. The news gains more significance as it comes just a couple of days after Team India Captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from test cricket.

The buzz further reveals that the BCCI think tank was in no mood to approve Virat’s decision, and they have urged the star cricketer to reconsider, especially with the challenging five-Test series against England coming up. However, Kohli has not yet responded to the BCCI’s request.

Needless to say, Virat’s retirement, along with his teammate Rohit’s, would leave a huge void in the Indian Test team, especially with an inexperienced middle order. Kohli is said to be contemplating his retirement since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia earlier this year, where he scored a century in the first Test. However, Virat later struggled for form for the rest of the series, ending the series with a poor average of just about 23.75. Virat’s poor performance drew immense criticism, and there were numerous calls for his retirement.

If Virat joins Rohit in his retirement, Team India will be heavily dependent on the young brigade, including Shubman Gill, a frontrunner for the captaincy, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant. Virat stepped out of T20 internationals after India’s World Cup win last year. He has been in superlative form in the just-suspended IPL, scoring over 500 runs in 11 matches.
