The ongoing season of IPL is progressing on a very laboured note. First, it was the indefinite suspension of the league due to the prevailing situation between India and Pakistan. If this was not enough, the first game after the restart of the tournament went on the worst possible track.
What promised to be a super interesting clash between Bengaluru and Kolkata turned out to be a bummer. This game was always doubtful, considering the weather in Bengaluru.
The worst possible thing happened for this game as it got completely washed away due to the rains that hit the city hard. Subsequently, the game was called off.
What this essentially means is that Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata will be getting a point each from this game. While this might not be a bad result for Bengaluru, who are comfortable at the top of the table, this comes as a huge detrimental outcome for Kolkata.
Due to this result, Kolkata has become the fourth team to be eliminated from the tournament this year. They needed to absolutely win the game against Bengaluru to stay alive in the tournament, but that did not happen due to the raining weather.
On a related note, it can be noted that Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and now Kolkata have been elevated from the tournament. The interesting thing here is that all these teams had IPL at least once in the past.
Rarely to be as many as four champion teams getting eliminated from the tournament in such an early stage.
