Often times, we observe strange developments in the IPL as we see players who struggle to perform in one side, later go on to join some other side and the miraculously become stellar prospects there. One such story is turning out to be the case with Mitchell Santner now.
Santner was earlier with Chennai Super Kings for multiple years, including the 2024 season. However, he was largely under utilised and perhaps even undervalued in the Chennai Super Kings squad.
Very rarely was he given a chance to perform for Chennai in the traditionally slow Chepauk stadium. This sounded very strange, but it is a fact. But luckily, for the talented spinner, he moved out of Chennai and joined the rival club of Mumbai Indians, which paid off brilliantly for him.
Santner is now turning out to be an absolute hero for Mumbai Indians as he is being given chances consistently and fittingly enough, he is performing better than expected. Even in the match against Delhi Capitals last night, it was Santner who was the point of difference. He bowled a total of four hours and considered just 11 runs while picking up three wickets. This was crucial in containing Delhi in the chase of 180 runs.
While Mitchell Santner was criminal undervalued in Chennai, he is now becoming a fan favorite hero in Mumbai. He appears to have formed a very strong relationship with the core players in the team and he is also performing brilliantly on field, which matters the most.
