Victory Without Trophy: India’s Bold Asia Cup Celebration

India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph in Dubai ended in controversy as the team refused to accept the trophy from ACC President and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi.

While the players received their individual awards, they declined to step forward for the winners’ trophy. The ceremony was delayed by over an hour before being wrapped up abruptly, leaving the trophy presentation incomplete. 

While Mohsin Naqvi was waiting for the Indian team to come on stage to accept the trophy, the Indian players were busy having fun by watching reels and chitchatting on the ground.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav said it was unprecedented for a champion side to be denied a proper presentation, as they were not handed the trophy by another dignitary instead of Mohsin Naqvi.

Team India’s gesture was a mark of silent protest amidst the prevailing tensions between both nations following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor retaliation. Despite a majority of Indians urging the Men In Blue not to play with Pakistan in the Asia Cup, the cricketers decided to play and silenced Pakistani players’ mischief on the field.

Despite the drama, the Indian players celebrated their victory on the field with joy, lifting teammates on shoulders, posing with the national flag, and thanking the fans in the stands. The scenes of India celebrating without the trophy quickly went viral, sparking debate across cricketing circles.
