Over the last six months period or so, Telugu cricketer Tilak Varma has been one of the consistent performers in the Indian cricket team. However, he injured himself at the worst possible time just before the start of the T20 World Cup.
After having missed the ongoing T20 series against New Zealand, due to the injury, it is now being reported that Tilak could be progressing better than expected as he is recovering at an elevated pace.
What is for certain is that Tilak will be missing the rest of the two T20 games against New Zealand, and if he can gain match fitness on time, he could be a part of the T20 World Cup from the opening game itself.
Tilak is likely to join the Indian team ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup starting from February 7, and he could be an integral part of the core team.
Considering the kind of importance that Tilak had been having in the top order for India, his addition is going to be crucial for the team to progress further. More importantly, for Tilak, it is crucial that he becomes a part of tournament squads for his own growth and experience.
All eyes will be on whether Tilak can be match-fit in time, as his fitness will be continuously assessed by the BCCI. Once he regains match fitness, he is likely to be incorporated into the team almost immediately, which would be a much-needed boost.
India will be facing United States in their first game of the tournament, which will be played on February 7, and we have to see Tilak would be available for selection on time.
