Playing for the Indian national cricket team comes with its own set of accolades and complications as well. Now it is the turn of talented Telugu cricketer Tilak Varma to face the situation.
In the recent past Tilak has been one of the finest players for India in the T20 format, and this was evident in the way he won the Asia Cup tournament final for India. But this sad part is that he injured himself right before the T20 World Cup and had to wrestle his way back into the team.
But the point to be noted here is that Tilak has been facing several complaints from social media folk in the recent past. The main complaint that is being raised against the talented young cricketer is that his strike rate in the middle overs is very low.
People are pointing out that Tilak is batting very slowly in the crucial first down position, which is detrimental to the whole team. The fact that his strike rate has been within the 100 to 110 mark in recent times is emphasising the same.
Tilak is an attacking minded player by nature, but it appears that the pitch conditions and also the team composition might be dictating him to the way he is currently. However, considering all the complaints that are pouring in, perhaps Tilak can take a lesson or two from this and enhance his aggressive batting.
What is clear is that Tilak has strong temperament and batting technicalities to be one of the all-time great T20 players for India. But considering the changing mindset of the T20 format, it is perhaps understandable that Tilak is being pressurised to spike up his strike rate further.
