Cricket is a constantly evolving game and we get to see legends being born every single generation across all formats. Just because this generation of players are better than the previous generations when it comes to strike rate, it doesn’t mean the veterans are any inferior.
For now, we have an active discussion happening about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the T20 format which is turning out to be ugly and embarrassing.
Whenever a young player, for instance, Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Yashasvi Jaiswal scores big runs with a solid strike rate, there is an immediate reaction defaming Kohli and Rohit. Many people are saying that Kohli and Rohit were of no use in the T20 format as they used to score runs at a low pace.
It is perfectly alright to enjoy the aggressive batting of current generation players, but that doesn’t mean legends like Virat and Rohit need to be brought into discussion every single time. Just because this generation strike rate is superior for the previous generation cricketers, it doesn’t mean Kohli and Rohit’s contributions to the team weren’t any lesser.
After having contributed so much to the Indian team and also shouldering the IPL on their legacy for many years, players like Virat and Rohit not deserve this kind of inferiority treatment from Indian Cricket following folk.
People will very well understand the impact of these two legendary superstars after they leave IPL as the star power will disappear immediately and audience anticipation will dissipate proportionately.
