One of the big transition period before the start of the 2027 IPL season is happening in the form of the change of head coach for Chennai Super Kings. Stephen Fleming, who had been the head coach for the CSK team for more than a decade is no longer with them.
There was this constant debate on who could be the next prospective head coach for the CSK team and finally, there is an end to the suspense.
The CSK franchise has officially confirmed that Indian bowling legend Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the new coach of the team. This decision was made public by the team management, a short while back.
Earlier, Zaheer Khan had served Mumbai Indians as the Director of Cricket from 2018 to 2024. Also, he was a star player for Mumbai Indians for a few years and now he is joining their rival team Chennai as the head coach.
He was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in 2025–26, and now he has been appointed as the head coach of CSK. It has to be seen how he would be operating as the new head coach for one of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament.
What is certain is that having a solid head coach who is well versed with the Indian cricket setup could benefit a young CSK team with plenty of domestic talent. This is also a much needed boost for CSK after a few years of poor performances.
