Team India Seals A Massive Win

It was already known that Team India will win the second Test match against New Zealand which is held in Mumbai. New Zealand already lost five wickets the other day while chasing a mammoth target of 540 runs.

It was predicted that Indian bowlers will dismiss the rest of the Kiwi batters by lunch today. However, it took less than an hour to get all the New Zealand batsmen back to the pavilion. Hence, New Zealand got all out for 167 runs India won the match by 372 runs.

This is the largest victory for India in terms of runs. The previous best was 337 run-victory against South Africa in 2015. This is also the biggest defeat for New Zealand in terms of runs. Their previous biggest defeat was by 358 runs, against South Africa.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav have taken four wickets each and dismantled the Kiwi batting lineup during the second innings. Ashwin now has 300 wickets at home. Only Anil Kumble (350) stands ahead of him. Ashwin also became the second-fastest cricketer to scalp 300 wickets at home (49 Tests). Sri Lanka’s legend Muthiah Muralidharan did it in 48 Tests.

The only notable performance that came from New Zealand in this match was the scintillating spell of Ajaz Patel in the first innings. He scalped all the 10 wickets of India and became only the third player in the world to take 10 wickets in a single inning of a Test match. He picked up 14 wickets in total, in this Test match.

With this win, India also became the no.1 ranked team in the ICC Test rankings.
