Andhra Student Dies By Suicide In IIT Madras

In the recent past suicides by students have spiked for many reasons. Unable to compete in the academic and various organizational problems are bothering the students and they are taking extreme steps incapable of handling them. One more student has committed suicide in one of India’s prestigious institutes, IIT.

Going into details, 24 years old Pushpak who was pursuing his third year engineering in IIT was found hanging in his hostel room. The IIT management has informed the police immediately and the body was recovered and sent to the government hospital for a post-mortem report.

Why did Pushpak commit suicide is yet to be known and the police have launched a probe into the same. Regarding Pushpak’s suicide, IIT Madras has issued a statement that expressing its sincere condolences and urged to respect the privacy of Pushpak’s family members.

Further IIT Madras added that it has set up a committee that will look into the problems being faced by students in day-to-day life.

This is the second incident of suicide in one month. A 24-year-old Navi Mumbai resident, Steven Sunny Alappat, died by suicide inside his hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. Steven grew up in Seawoods-Darave and was a former student of Vashi’s Father Agnel College. Steven moved to Chennai in 2021 to pursue his MS in Power Electronics.
