Four students and more than 64 others were injured in a stampede at a university in Kohi.
The tech fest has popular singer Nikitha Gandhi’s performance at an open-air auditorium on the campus of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) on Saturday.
Four of the injured students are in critical condition. The entry was reportedly restricted to those holding passes but people started rushing into the auditorium after it started raining outside. This led to stampeded and some students slipped and fell.
The ministers expressed their condolences and Nikitha Gandhi also expressed her grief. Nikitha Gandhi wrote, ‘Heartbroken & devasted by what took place this evening in Kochi. Such an unfortunate incident took place before I could even leave for the venue for the performance. No words are possibly enough to express this profound grief. My prayers go out to the families of the students.’
Kerala Health Minister Veena George revealed, ‘The news is extremely unfortunate. 46 people were brought to the Kalamassery Medical College with injuries. Four were brought dead, of which two were boys and two were girls. The condition of four is critical. Two of them are in a private hospital and the other two are undergoing treatment at a government hospital’.
