The popular image-centric social media platform Instagram is mulling the launch of an exclusive app for its short-form video feature, Reels, app chief Adam Mosseri said.
Reportedly, Mosseri informed his staff about the same.
Instagram Reels are the most effective format for driving sales among the social media platforms.
This move is supposedly an initiative of the Meta-owned company to take advantage of TikTok’s uncertain status in the USA. Instagram probably could be aiming to provide a similar video-scrolling experience like that on TikTok, experts felt.
Interestingly, Meta did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
In addition, Meta, in January, also made an announcement about a new video-editing app, Edits, seemingly aimed at acquiring a share of the user base of CapCut, a video-editing app owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance.
In 2018, Meta also tried out a standalone video-sharing app, named Lasso, with an aim to stand as a competitor for TikTok, but the app did not gain much traction and it was shut down.
