The mystery behind the missing couple in Meghalaya seems to be unravelling with the police arresting the wife. Sonam, the wife of an Indore man, Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly hired killers to eliminate her husband when the couple went to enjoy their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Sonam allegedly has a relationship with one another man Raj Kushwaha, who conspired the killing.
Sonam has been arrested for orchestrating the murder. Police found Sonam in an unconscious state on Saturday night at a ‘dhaba’ in Ghazipur. They shifted her to Ghazipur Medical College where she surrendered before the police. Later, she was arrested. However, Sonam maintained that they were robbed and that her husband was killed by the robbers.
Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang said that three others were also arrested in connection with the case. One of them was taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh, while two others were arrested from Indore. Those arrested told the police that they were hired by Sonam to kill her husband. One among the three arrested disclosed the role of Raj Khushwaha in the killing. Police is investigating into the case in all angles. Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 and headed for a honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20.
On May 23, they took a two-wheeler for rent to visit Cherrapunjee. Since then, the couple were reported to be missing. However, after 11 days, police found Raja’s body in a gorge below the Weisawdong parking lot at Riat Arliang. A machete supposedly used to kill Raja was also recovered from near the place. Then the police began searching for his missing wife. During this time, a tourist guide in Meghalaya told the police that he found the couple along with three others climbing steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat on May 23.
However, Sonam’s father rejected the charges against his daughter. He told the media that her daughter told them that she was abducted from Meghalaya and that there was a bid to rob her. The victim’s brother alleged that Raj Kushwaha was employed by Sonam’s father in their plywood industry. Meanwhile, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangam congratulated the state police for cracking the case within days of the incident.
