Notwithstanding Donald Trump’s thrust on local hiring and political scrutiny over foreign-born employees, two Indian-origin executives, Srinivas Gopalan and Rahul Goyal, have been elevated to the top leadership roles in two major American companies.
Srinivas “Srini” Gopalan, 55, will head T-Mobile, the US telecom giant, as the CEO on November 1. Gopalan is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and is currently serving as T-Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer. He will succeed Mike Sievert, who has been the CEO since 2020. Sievert will now become the vice-chairman, a newly created position by the company.
In a statement on LinkedIn: Gopalan said that he was deeply honoured to take on the role of T-Mobile’s next chief executive officer. Earlier, Gopalan worked in various continents and industries. He started as a management trainee at the Hindustan Unilever and moved to holed senior roles at Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Capital One and Deutsche Telekom. At T-Mobile, he has supervised the technology, consumer and business divisions.
Chicago-based beverage giant Molson Coors picked Rahul Goyal, 49, as its new president and CEO, effective October 1. Goyal would succeed Gavin Hattersley, who has been with the company for 24 years.
Goyal, a native of India, studied engineering in Mysore and pursued his business studies in Denver. He worked in Coors and Molson brands in the US, UK and India.
David Coors, chairman of Molson Coors’ Board, said that Rahul was chosen after an extensive CEO succession process. Rahul brought the right experience and vision to drive our next phase of growth, he added. Goyal said he was read to meet challenges head-on and take the company’s legacy forward.
Despite MAGA hardliners portraying foreign-born employees being portrayed as globalists taking American jobs, Indian-origin leaders continue to head America’s most influential companies.
