The Indian Police Service, IPS is one of the most tribute positions in the Indian protective services. However, in the recent past, several IPS officers have been umpteen external pressure from their superior and other external factor.
Instating the same, an Andhra Pradesh born IPS officer named Puran Kumar has shot himself to death in what could be considered an extremely tragic incident which came to light yesterday.
Y Puran Kumar, born in Andhra Pradesh, a 2001-batch IPS officer from the SC community shot himself in Chandigarh, leaving an eight-page note accusing 10 officers, including DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, of caste-based harassment. This shocking incident happened on October 7.
His wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, filed an FIR on October 8 charging the accused with abetment to suicide under IPC Section 306 and the SC/ ST Atrocities Act. In this connection, Chandigarh Police formed an SIT to investigate.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini promised a fair probe in this connection and more details are awaited.
