Owing to the Artificial Intelligence revolution and also the post Covid scenario, several global companies have been largely cutting down on their workforce. This is now evident in the case of one of the world’s largest companies, Amazon as well.
Amazon has officially confirmed that it is laying off as many as 14,000 employees as part of its restructuring process. Earlier today, reports suggested the number could be as high as 30,000, but the company has now clarified the actual figure.
The company now aims to move heavily towards AI and related technologies considering the future needs that are ahead of them. Beth Galetti, a senior vice president at Amazon has communicated that the company is sizing down by 14,000 individuals starting soon.
This sizing down operation comes roughly 3 years after the massive, 27,000 firing that happened at Amazon back in 2022.
Amazon has a total of 1.5 million workforce globally and this new layoff rate of 14,000 individuals comes as a shocker in the current day market. However, this is significantly lesser than the initial projection which estimated Amazon to fire as many as 30,000 workers in this quarter.
The company said they would do adequate exercise in helping the affected employees in terms of new job opportunities.
