Just Sankranthi Things: Andhra Alludu Served With 290 Dishes

The term Sankranthi Kotha Alludu(festivities for new son-in-law during Sankranthi) is very popular in Andhra Pradesh. Generally, the in-laws houses are filled with joy and festive atmosphere when their new son in law comes home during the festival season.

A similar scenario is observed in the case of a new son in law when he arrived at his in-laws house in Naraipatnam yesterday on the occasion of Sankranthi.

Celebrating their daughter’s first Sankranti after marriage, Nalem Ramesh Kumar and his wife Kalavathi hosted a spectacular Godavari-style lunch for their son-in-law, Sriharsha.

The couple prepared 290 different traditional dishes to honor Sriharsha, who is 29 years old. The massive spread included a vast variety of traditional sweets, savories and authentic Andhra Pradesh delicacies.

The groom, arriving for lunch on Thursday at their Shanti Nagar residence, was stunned by the grand gesture. But at the same time a few praise the preservation of rich cultural traditions, while critics have raised concerns regarding the potential food waste.
