The gross repercussions of social media are to be understood if you look at the recent incident in Kerala, where a man named Deepak committed suicide after a lady shared a video of him, implicating he misbehaved with her on the bus.
In the video, which went viral on social media, netizens commented that Deepak is not clearly seen voluntarily or physically misbehaving with the woman. However, the video spread widely, and the humiliation he faced reportedly led to his suicide.
Now, Kozhikode Medical College police have launched a manhunt for culprit lady Shimjitha Musthafa, a Vadakara native accused of abetting the unnatural death of Deepak.
Amid mounting public outrage, the medical college police on Monday registered a case against Musthafa under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after the victim’s family approached the District Police.
Following criticism, Musthafa deleted her Instagram and Facebook accounts. Before doing so, she had removed the original video and posted a follow-up clip explaining the reasons for sharing it. But for now, she is absconding while the Kerala police are on the manhunt for her. She is likely to face the legal consequences soon.
