AI startup Anthropic opened its new office in Bengaluru, the second in the Asia-Pacific region. The first office was opened in Tokyo, Japan. Days after the launch of its automation tools, Claude Cowork and C compiler, Claude Opus 4.6, the inauguration of its office in Bengaluru being seen as a firm step towards expanding its presence in India.
The company reportedly opened its office in the country after identifying India to be the second-largest market for the AI assistant, Claude.ai. The office would be led by Irina Ghose, the MD of India.
As Bengaluru already is a significant IT exporter, hub for major tech giants like Google, Infosys and also has the required ecosystem for startups, Anthropic has decided to open its business in the vibrant city that could support its expansion plans, say IT experts.
Reportedly, Anthropic opened its office in the country following new partnerships across various sectors like education, enterprise, and agriculture. Claude Code is being used by Air India to develop software at a faster rate, while Cognizant is deploying the AI to 3,50,000 employees globally.
Swiggy is also using Claude to enable the users place orders for groceries. Sources said Anthropic is working with the Pratham Education Nonprofit for executing a pilot project, Anytime Testing Machine’ for students in 20 schools.
With thousands of employees being rendered jobless due to the switch to AI operations, it has to be seen how Anthropic’s entry into India would shape the IT future in the country.
