In a major move to make air travel more passenger friendly, the Central government has directed airlines to avoid charging extra for a majority of seats. As per the new rule, at least 60 percent of seats on domestic flights must be offered without any additional fee.
The government has also instructed airlines to ensure that passengers booked under the same PNR are seated together, preferably in nearby seats. This is aimed at improving convenience, especially for families and groups.
Authorities have also asked airlines to clearly display passenger rights across booking platforms and airports. Strict rules will be followed in cases of delays, cancellations, and denied boarding.
This decision comes after growing complaints about high extra charges for seat selection and other services, with the government now focusing on making flying more affordable and transparent.
