7000 Students Tested HIV Positive In Karnataka

It is already known that HIV contraction has been a major problem for the underdeveloped parts of the country for a while now. Strangely, even Karnataka which is one of the developed states in India has been falling prey to the same.

Reportedly, over 7000 young people and students aged 18 to 25 have tested positive for HIV in Karnataka, prompting the state government and the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society to mandate integrated health camps for HIV testing, screening, and counseling.

This is a part of a mega drive where the concerned medical teams would carry out the tests in colleges across the state.

Though the test is not compulsory, the initiative has been taken following the request from the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society The society has written to the authorities seeking support in organising Integrated Health Camps to conduct HIV test for engineering students.

The fact that engineering college going students are having to undergo HIV tests is a reflection of how things are going currently.
